Tucked along the wild and scenic Clarion River near the quiet town of Sigel, “Moosehead on the River” is more than just a cabin retreat—it’s a living piece of family history, love, and adventure. Proudly family-owned and operated, it’s a place where memories are made, stories are shared, and spirits are lifted.

Our roots go back to 1951, when newlyweds Joe and Betty spent their honeymoon in a cozy log cabin near Cook Forest State Park. Surrounded by towering hemlocks and the gentle rush of the river, they fell deeply in love with the untamed beauty of the Pennsylvania Wilds—a love that would echo through generations.

As the years passed, Joe and Betty, now parents to eleven children, returned often. The Clarion River became their refreshment—a haven for hiking, canoeing, fishing, swimming, and late-night ghost stories whispered beside the flicker of a campfire. These visits, nearly annual, became the rhythm of summer vacations. They were a family tradition rooted in nature and togetherness.

In 1976, the family took a leap and purchased a slice of paradise on the north bank of the Clarion, bordering the Allegheny National Forest. The original home—a humble double-wide with a screened-in porch and fireplace—served them well for many years, but the dream grew larger. They imagined a cabin where family and friends could gather in comfort, year-round.

By June of 1996, that dream took shape and “Moosehead on the River” became a reality. This warm, welcoming four-bedroom, two-bath retreat sleeps ten with ease. Designed for connection and comfort, Moosehead was lovingly updated in 2024 with hand crafted furniture, new bedding, a spacious kitchen, large wood shed and a stunning riverside deck that cantilevers over the river bank—bringing guests even closer to the magic of the Clarion.

Joe and Betty always believed this was more than a vacation retreat. It was their dream that Moosehead would be a sacred place—a space to build and strengthen bonds, to preserve traditions, to rest and reflect and to inspire each generation to live with heart, purpose, and a spirit of service.

For decades, our family has recorded each visit in the Moosehead journals. Inside those worn pages are tales of laughter, milestones, birth and wedding announcements, first swims, quiet walks, new discoveries, and countless entertainment clips by the fire. Our stories live here—waiting to be shared.
